G.I.R.L.S Initiative; Girl Scouts Visits

Posted by Dylan Gleicher

On account of the fact that we have three girls on the team this year, a particular goal is to put a focus on increasing the role of women in science. We determined the best way to construct a solution to address the problem of women's disproportionate representation in science is to inspire girls at a young age to get involved with the world of STEM and robotics. We recently had the privilege of visiting four of our local Girl Scout troops in order to get some of them interested in robotics, and eliminate the negative stigma that many girls unfortunately will develop towards STEM fields. Every troop we visited posed excellent questions, displayed wonderful audience behavior, and really made every event a huge success!

On April 05 Wreckers Robotics participated in the Eastern Super Regional Qualifier in York, PA. The competition was to determine who would move on to the World Championship in St. Louis on April 22. True to their name, the Wreckers wrecked the competition and set the world record match high score, and took first place overall! On to Worlds! The team also got to meet one of the program founders, Woodie Flowers, shown in team photo.
